Our story

Two hemispheres, one studio

Hemispheres Music Studio was started by Rebecca Harding and Rob Cutting in Burlington, Ontario in the summer of 2020 — born of a desire to provide online music education while the world dealt with the upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although started in the Northern Hemisphere, the studio has roots that extend south to Canberra, Australia, where Rebecca was raised. At about the same time she sat down at the piano for her first lesson at age 9, Rob was learning his first chords on guitar, across the globe in Ancaster, Ontario.

While Rebecca learned Classical music and sat her exams in Australia, Rob studied at Mohawk College's Applied Music Program, becoming noticed as an up-and-coming guitarist in the Hamilton music scene — both as a lead performer and a sideman.

Their experiences were vastly different, but both were profoundly shaped by music — the joys, frustrations, accomplishments and growth that come from learning an instrument, and the lasting friendships formed through playing.

Rebecca moved to Canada in 2013 and met Rob. Hemispheres began as a musical duo performing live in local venues, and grew into the studio it is today — the result of years of dedication, practice, experience and a deep desire to share the benefits of music with others.

Rebecca Harding and Rob Cutting

"All human beings are musical, without exception — and with knowledge, support, encouragement and accountability, everyone can learn to express themselves musically."

Our philosophy

Why online lessons?

Here to stay

Online lessons have become a permanent part of mainstream music education — because of these benefits.

Safety

Social distancing is a built-in feature of a virtual music lesson.

Opportunity

Reclaimed time is an opportunity to learn the exciting, rewarding skill of playing an instrument.

Convenience

Set up in a quiet corner of home — save fuel, skip the traffic, and regain your most precious commodity: your time. We have also seen far fewer missed lessons online.

Inclusivity

Regardless of location, transportation, mobility or any other barrier — with an instrument, an internet connection and the desire to learn, nothing holds you back.

Effectiveness

We have watched our growing body of students thrive online, and we continually invest in the best equipment and technology to deliver a quality experience.
